The actual labor was over 24 hrs long...I had been having contractions the night before the 1st… and they kept getting stronger. Well around 9:30am I called my fiancée and said “you need come home I think I am in actual labor” He got home took me to the hospital… I was only 1 cm dilated but had thinned to 60%. The nurse saw that I was having contractions 10 minutes apart and suggested walking for about 2 hours. We walked, and while walking the contractions got to 5 minutes apart, but when I sat they slowed back down. I was like “crap… it’s false labor”. I went home and figured I would rest. Well, the contractions didn’t let up… they got unbearable! I called the doc on call and said that I couldn’t take the pain anymore so he said “come in, they will check me and probably send me home with Demerol”. Well they checked me at 8:30pm and I was 2 cm. They kept me 2 more hours and at 10:30pm I was at a 4, so they said “yep your not going home“ They started the IV and I asked for something for pain. They told me I had to hold out until I was 5 cm, they checked me a little bit later and I was at a 5, so they gave me some pain meds until the anesthesiologist got there and the epidural didn’t bother me at all. The pain meds relaxed me enough (they said the meds wouldn’t hurt her) I was talking and laughing through it LOL! I dilated to 8 cm then started slowing down, and I wasn’t effacing anymore. I was still at like 70% effaced so they started Pitocin. I almost made it without being pitted LOL! Well, that sped up the process and I started feeling that oh so lovely pressure and told them “I think I need to push“. Well, they said not yet because the doc was delivering someone else so I held out as long as I could, but the human body will only tolerate so much! So they got the doc and it only took like 5 minutes of pushing and I actually asked after the second push when I would get to eat… LOL! At 7:18 am Ryleigh was born! It was long but not as painful as my first. I am recovering well...just when they say message your stomach afterwards, I would listen! It actually helps the pain..and shrinks the uterus. Well that’s all; I am going to go steal Ryleigh from her daddy, sorry this is so long but I had a long labor. I was also able to go home the day after delivery because both Ryleigh and myself were doing good. Good luck to all of you that are expecting, its such an awesome experience; even the second time around!  Cafe Mom member.
